Post your bugs, problems, and issues here. I will update the main post with status on the bugs and add new ones there as well.
Do not put in feature requests, wish lists and "I want" stuff here. There's a separate thread for that.

I just downloaded and installed the Flickr Gadget, and cannot make it work. It seems to install okay, and I can start up the window and the remote, but no pictures are displayed. At the beginning, an arrow shows up in the picture frame, and when I try to go to "next picture," that arrow will rotate, but then nothing. Any ideas why this is happening?

Hi Stuart,
Thanks for downloading our gadget.
Let's have some debug information: From the options screen (which you can get to from the remote) click on the status tab.
Here, the gadget displays what it's doing, exactly. Can you please describe what messages are shown in the options -> Status tab when you run the gadget?

It shows:
Conn: Online DLD: idle TMR: StartChange
If I click on the "Pause" button (||), it changes to StopChange
and then, one time, the last line changed to:
XML State Change (I think?)

| The last line just changes again, and it now says XMLStateChange: 3 |

Interesting... Some quick questions, Stuart.
From what you say, it looks like you have an active Internet connection, and the gadget is working fine.
1. What timer delay have you set in the gadget's options? Is it a "sane" value? 2. Is your Internet connection actually on? The gadget is trying to download something (that's the state: 3 message) but you don't say what happens after that. 3. What is the frame size that you've set? If you have a slow Internet connection, and you set a really big picture size, it might take some time to download. Does the arrow rotate on the picture frame (or does it go away) ? Have you tried giving the gadget enough time to download a picture? 4. Did you try to set a tag? Is the tag field blank? |

My responses are interspersed with your questions:
1. What timer delay have you set in the gadget's options? Is
it a "sane" value?
By timer
delay, I assume you mean how often the picture changes. The default value is 1
minute, and I've had it at that most of the time, but also tried 5 minutes
once. No difference.
2. Is your Internet connection actually on? The gadget is trying to download
something (that's the state: 3 message) but you don't say what happens after
that.
My Internet
connection is a cable modem, and it is always on. Once it changes to the “XMLStateChange:
3” message, nothing else happens – it just stays there.
3. What is the frame size that you've set? If you have a slow Internet
connection, and you set a really big picture size, it might take some time to
download. Does the arrow rotate on the picture frame (or does it go away) ?
Have you tried giving the gadget enough time to download a picture?
The frame size
is the default 240 pixels – I have not changed that at all. Just tested by
download speed, and it is currently 3354 Kb/s, which should pose no problem at
all. The arrow just goes away after awhile. I have left if running for up to 30 minutes, which I should think would be way more than enough time, shouldn't it?
4. Did you try to set a tag? Is the tag field blank?
I have left
this alone, and it is blank.

Hmmm...... you seem to have a hit a bonafide problem, Stuart. Cannot explain it yet, this hasn't happened before with anyone.
Am looking deeper into this and will get back.
Till then, another quick question, You wouldn't happen to be running a firewall that doesn't allow HTTP traffic would you? Say if you installed a new application that required Internet use, did it work straight off or did you have to do some settings on your firewall?

No, the only firewall I am using is the Windows one that comes with SP2. Since I am behind a router of my own, I feel pretty secure, and don't like the resources that firewalls use, and how much they slow things down, and how much time it takes to get them configured to allow what I want allowed...
I have one thought, that I will try - I can use msconfig to disable all software but Microsoft's and see if the gadget works. If it does, then I can add in a few programs at a time until I narrow down to the conflicting software, assuming there is some, which seems likely to me. Can't do that today, but I may be able to try this weekend. 'Til then, I'll just leave it off. Let me know if you think of anything. |

| Well, I used msconfig to turn off all programs and services at startup, except for MS ones, and then tried to use Flickr, but it still did not work. I also tried to get it to work under Safe Mode w/networking, but no luck there either. Then I tried it on my wife's computer, which is on the same network, but a differently configured computer (different motherboard, memory, BIOS, etc.) and it did not work there either. So, it leaves me suspecting that the problem may have something to do either with my network, or with my antivirus software, which is Bitdefender. I use Comcast cable, with a Linksys Modem and Router. There is nothing unusual about how they are configured, however, and I have absolutely no trouble with any other Internet programs or access, and do not have to do anything special when installing and configuring anything else, either with the network setup or with Bitdefender. I do not know how Bitdefender could be the problem either, as it was completely shut down when I used msconfig to set startup options, including all of its services. Got any ideas about how to proceed to debug this? |

| One more thought - does Flickr require the Messenger service to be running? I have it turned off, as it can be an access point for hackers, and I don't need it for anything. |

No Stuart,
This gadget has got nothing to do with the Messenger service. It downloads flickr pictures via standard HTTP calls through the standard Microsoft HTML component library.
Thanks for all your input, I'm looking into this and will post as soon as I figure out what the problem is, exactly.

Could my inablity to use the gadget have something to do with permissions not being set up properly? I recently downloaded a program to try, and it also did not work correctly, and their explanation for it has to do with having global registry permissions set only for "Everyone" (No "Administrato, or other users). I just checked, and that is indeed the case with my WinXP installation, and it occurred to me that it might be the same issue.

Hi Dhiraj-
Well, I found out one more interesting thing. The gadget does not work on any of my three desktops (mine, my wife's and my daughter's), nor on our laptop. However, I tried it in a fresh copy of WinXP Pro installed under VMWare, and it worked just fine. Apparently, there is some conflict either with some program that I have installed on all of our computers, or with some of my default settings. I don't have the time to try each and every one of my settings and installs under the virtual machine installation, but when I do install something there, if I remember, I will try to gadget to see if it works or not. |

Hi,
Thanks for the further info on this, Stuart, we still haven't been able to isolate the *exact* nature of the problem where it doesn't work on only some computers. It worked fine on whichever computer I tried.
Any further information (you're doing a great job until now) will really help. I need to figure out where the conflict is happening to be able to fix it.
Thanks, Dhiraj. |

politis2004. Glad to see you try out the uZable flickr gadget.
This bug has still not been solved. Do give a more detailed description of when this happens. Flickr has been updating their API and does not allow full access to some photos, now.
